Drawing 66: Mirklin Cove, Ennerdale
Direction of view: ESE
Notes: This scene also appears in Lakeland Mountain Drawings (195). Tewet Tarn is still shown in the foreground, although at the time of A Lakeland Sketchbook, Wainwright noted that it was “fast becoming a reedy marsh”. It has now achieved that status.
Comments: I visited this sketch location on 27th February 2019 (see 217 for an account of that day). With voluminous clouds on the mountain ridge, I had given up the idea of getting photos for this project, but descended towards Tewet How to check out the location. Suddenly I realised that the cloud was receding as quickly as it had appeared; and I literally ran down the ridge to get a photograph before the conditions changed again.
A very successful day, celebrated with steak and ale pie and a pint in The Shepherds Arms, Ennerdale Bridge.
