Drawing 394: Clough Head and Great Dodd
Direction of view: ESE
Notes: See sketch 327. Oddly, Wainwright has included an extra stone to the left; this now doesn’t exist on the ground.
Comments: I took this picture on slide film twice in 1978, first in January and second probably on 25th August, after an ascent of Brae Fell with Peter Messenger: see 327
See 327 also for an account of my first digital photo on 6th May 2012. Whilst taking this picture, I got chatting with a fellow member of the Wainwright Society, who was interested in the project. He and his wife had achieved one of the fastest ever rounds of AW’s 214 Lakeland Fells.
The final photo shown was taken on 18th June 2017, when some German tourists approached me to find out what I was doing, and the significance of the circle.
This scene does not appear elsewhere in Wainwright’s published works.
