Drawing 270: Angle Tarn, Patterdale

Direction of view: W

Notes: The viewpoint is on the path from Boardale Hause to Satura Crag and High Street.  A few rather spindly young trees are growing on the island.

The only other appearance of this view in Wainwright’s published works is on page 48 of A Coast to Coast Walk.

Comments: I took this picture on 9th April 2014, on a walk with Peter Watson, visiting six summits north of High Street.  There was cloud on the Helvellyn range, so I knew I needed to visit again to get a better picture.

My next visit was not until 11th May 2018, on a walk from Hartsop with Andrew Amos. A cloudy and very windy day, but the tops were clear. The trees on the island were still alive and well.  After our walk we drove to Glenridding to join in the AGM of the John Muir Trust, which seeks the preservation of wild land, and had recently taken on the management of Glenridding Common, an area which includes Helvellyn.

But the 2018 photo is still a bit disappointing.  I passed this way with Peter Messenger on 23rd April 2021, and couldn’t resist improving upon it….
